Europe bets on digital health, adaptive organizations, and deep tech foresight

From EU funding for smarter medical devices to ambidextrous organizations and a guide to deep tech scouting.

It’s been a while since we launched Above Trends, Beyond Insights. What started as an experiment in rethinking our editorial voice has now become a steady practice: every issue, we scan the signals that matter and translate them into business insight. Our commitment remains the same (less noise, more signal), with an even stronger focus on what executives need to navigate uncertainty: timely context, curated trends, and practical guidance.

Europe’s €403 million Tech4Cure leap for medtech, approved July 22, 2025

On 22 July 2025, the European Commission formally approved up to €403 million in public funding under the IPCEI Tech4Cure, aimed at integrating AI and digital innovations into medical devices.

The initiative involves participation from France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia, supporting 10 companies (six of which are SMEs) in developing predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine tools.

This public push is expected to unlock around €826 million in private capital, create nearly 800 jobs, and extend through 2036 to support industrial scaling.

Looking ahead, early-stage industrial deployment and pilot initiatives are to begin in the subsequent months, with the Commission facilitating coordination via the IPCEI Design Hub and overseeing claw-back mechanisms if financial returns exceed expectations .

For corporate leaders, Tech4Cure signals that public-private innovation ecosystems, especially in deep-health, will be a strategic battleground, and one increasingly backed by European policy and capital.

Ambidextrous organizations: balancing core execution and exploration

Companies today face a dual demand: efficiently run the business today while innovating for tomorrow’s disruptions.

The ambidextrous model, organizing separate units for “exploitation” (optimizing today’s offerings) and “exploration” (cultivating breakthrough innovation) under a unified leadership, has been discussed in management literature for years. Yet what was once a forward-looking theory is now becoming indispensable.

Firms that embrace this approach consistently outperform peers during market shifts, combining agility with operational excellence.
