Europe gets serious about digital sovereignty
New AI-ready org charts, and how to pass your next audit without stress
If you’ve been with us for a while, you probably remember Una Spremuta dal Web. That version of the newsletter took a pause to reflect a deeper transformation: the evolution from SED Web to Babini Mazzari.
Above trends, beyond insights is not just a rebrand. It’s a shift in perspective: less noise, more signal.
We’ll also show up more often - not monthly, but when it matters.
Europe’s digital sovereignty gets real: Microsoft launches Sovereign Cloud solutions
On June 16, Microsoft unveiled a comprehensive strategy to strengthen digital sovereignty in Europe, introducing the Sovereign Public Cloud, the Sovereign Private Cloud, and Microsoft 365 Local.
These initiatives are designed to ensure that European customers' data remains within the continent and under EU jurisdiction. Access to data and infrastructure will be managed exclusively by personnel based in Europe, and new tools such as Data Guardian and External Key Management give organizations greater control over operations and encryption.
The move reflects growing pressure from both regulators and clients for more transparency, legal certainty, and compliance with frameworks like the EU’s Digital Markets Act and NIS2.
For business leaders, this is not just about cloud procurement: it’s about aligning IT infrastructure with strategic, regulatory, and reputational imperatives.

The Post-AI organization: from roles to rhythms
As artificial intelligence integrates deeper into business operations, it’s reshaping not just how people work, but how organizations are structured. Teams are becoming smaller and more cross-functional, decision cycles are accelerating, and the boundaries between human tasks and machine-generated output are blurring.
Many enterprises are rethinking their operating models, introducing new roles such as AI governance leads and redefining how leadership and execution are distributed.
The trend is toward adaptive, data-driven organizations that balance strategic oversight with continuous learning and automation. For European companies, the key challenge is no longer adopting AI, but designing organizations that can evolve with it: aligning people and algorithms around common goals, not just shared tasks.

QUICK INSIGHT
Internal vs. External audit: how to prepare both effectively
Audit processes are a vital part of both compliance and continuous improvement, but they require distinct mindsets and preparations.
Internal Audit
Define scope and objectives clearly.
Engage teams openly and promote a no-blame culture.
Use checklists and internal controls to identify risks.
Document all procedures and findings in advance.
External Audit
Align early with the external auditor on scope and timeline.
Centralize documentation and grant appropriate access rights.
Brief involved personnel to ensure readiness.
Ensure that all policies are updated and compliant with relevant standards (e.g. ISO, NIS2).
A structured and proactive approach to audits (internal or external) helps organizations not only pass the test but evolve through it.
